Welcome to St. Stephen's! We are so glad you're on our website, and we hope to meet you soon. Below are some "Need to Knows" that should answer some immediate questions you might have. Feel free to browse around the rest of the website to learn more about us!

The Rev. Benson Shelton has been the Rector here at St. Stephen's since 2014.

How are we different from other churches?

St. Stephen's has been located in the heart of downtown Culpeper for over 200 years and is one of the oldest churches in Culpeper. One of the distinct things about our church is that we're an all-generations community who love the gospel of Jesus Christ and believe it is for all people. There's a place for you here, and we look forward to seeing you soon. Our church is located at 115 N. East St., Culpeper, VA 22701. VIEW A GOOGLE MAP.

What can I expect on Sundays?

We have two worship services on Sundays. Both are traditional Holy Communion: Rite II services. Our 8:00 a.m. service is contemplative in style and is not accompanied by music. Our 10:30 a.m. service includes an organ and choir singing traditional hymns. Please visit our sermons section if you'd like to check out some of Fr. Ben’s latest sermons. LISTEN TO SERMONS

What do you have for my kids?

The Family Ministry teams at St. Stephen’s are volunteer led and take great care in providing quality programming and ministry for children of all ages. We strive to create environments that are both safe and celebratory of the child’s age and stage of life. Our Sunday school teachers and staff undergo background checks and regular training and equipping to ensure that the very best care is being provided for the children at all times. We love what we do and the children we get to work with!

During Sunday worship, nursery care is provided for Infants – K, from 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. This means parents can enjoy Adult Forum in the Parish Hall while their children are enjoying the nursery. During the Sunday school hour from 9:00 a.m.-10:00 a.m. children ages 3 through fifth grade enjoy music, story time, teaching, play and small group discussion (where age-appropriate). Teenagers also can take advantage of our Sunday school offerings and many times participate in the worship service itself as Acolytes, Readers, or Lay Eucharistic Ministers serving at the altar. On the second Sunday of every month, Revelation Youth Group meets after the 10:30 a.m. service for Bible study, food and fun activities.

How do I get involved?

There are many ways to get involved. Here are four of them:

1) Come to a worship service on a Sunday.
2) Chat with Fr. Ben at his “Meet the Priest” session every quarter.
3) Sign-up for one of our Alpha classes that are offered two times a year.
4) Jump in on the Adult Forum sessions in the Parish Hall each Sunday.
