Weekly Announcements
The Culpeper Food Closet has been an outreach mission of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church since 1984. It actually began in a closet, where a few items were stored and were to be given out to folks in need. It grew to fill a Sunday school room, then a meeting room, and finally, in 2005, the church built a new building directly behind the original church and the entire first floor is now the Food Closet.

While St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church provides the housing, the equipment, management, many of the volunteers, food and other items provided, come from community-wide donations. Our own parishioners and those of many other churches in Culpeper and nearby areas bring food collected at weekly services. We see daily donations of food and other products donated by local businesses or brought in by individuals. Schools, churches, clubs, and service organizations often run their own food drives or sponsor fund-raisers. We use monetary donations to purchase items not donated in sufficient amounts to meet the growing need for help. Because of this strong community support, we have been able to meet the need for help without any government funding.

If you are interested in becoming a food-giver volunteer, they are scheduled in 2-hour shifts, with two daily shifts Mon. - Fri. (shifts are 9 a.m. - 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.) We also use volunteers to substitute for scheduled people who are unable to work, stocking shelves and picking up donations. We currently have no openings. Some training is required. Please contact us by phone and leave a message or email and we will return your call in a timely manner.

To send a donation, please make check payable to: "The Culpeper Food Closet"

NEED OF THE WEEK:

We need any donation at this time. Our shelves are low and demand continue. We've served 100,000 meals this year.

(NO green beans or plastic bags at this time)

Available Volunteer Positions:

We also need someone who has a truck and can lift boxes that may weigh up to 60+ pounds to pick up donated foods from Wal-Mart each Wednesday. Two men working together will also work, especially if someone who has a truck cannot do the lifting. If you think you can help with this, please call Bob Hilton at 547-4950 for information.

We also need a person to address thank you cards to cash donors once each month. We are also in need of persons to stock shelves afternoons, evenings or weekends. Call Dick or Barb at 543-3644.

We are looking for a person to address pre-printed thank you notes for monetary donations . This is a once-a month task. Call Barb Rosica at 547-3644 for more info.

Also, your response has been so great that we are currently inundated with plastic bags. Please, no more until we let you know!
