We offer events for children throughout the year: our Annual Easter Egg hunt, Vacation Bible School, Sunday school (September – May), Wreath making in Advent, a Birthday Party for Jesus, and more. These events are listed in our monthly newsletter, The Red Door, and our weekly Announcements section in our Sunday worship bulletins.
Jesus welcomed children, and so do we! If you have young children, our nursery is open 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. for children ages Infant - K. This allows parents of young children to participate in our Adult Forum, or simply to take a coffee break before our 10:30 a.m. worship begins. We realize some children can be anxious about going to a new place so parents are always welcome to bring their children into any service.
All of our staff and volunteers who work with children undergo a background check and are certified by the Diocese of Virginia's Prevention of Misconduct & Abuse Program.
Children's Sunday School
9:00 a.m. Children’s Sunday School in the Gathering Room. Children study the lessons with age appropriate activities. (September-May)
Children’s Sunday school is engaging, fun, and offers a chance for students to explore and learn more about the Christian faith. From September through May, children in pre K - 5th grade participate in our Spark Activate Faith Sunday School Curriculum. This curriculum is Bible based and works in conjunction with the lectionary year. Each Sunday lesson features a Bible story in the Old Testament, the Gospels, or Acts. The lessons work on multiple levels of learning and help provide a fun, safe, and educational experience for your child. If you want to study along with your child, your child’s Sunday school teacher can supply you with a link to the Spark interactive website. If you would like to more about the curriculum, please visit: VISIT THE SPARK WEBSITE
Vacation Bible School
Every summer St. Stephen’s hosts a fun-filled week of songs, crafts, and learning about God's love for us in Jesus Christ. Open to all kids, from age four through 5th grade, regardless of membership at St. Stephen's. In the past, we partnered with St. Luke’s Lutheran Church to proclaim to children within the Culpeper community: “God is with you wherever you go!” Throughout the week the children were taught that God knows them, God hears them, God strengthens them, God loves them, and God sends them out into the world.
