"The Culpeper Heat Shelter is an outreach ministry run several local Culpeper churches and volunteers, providing a warm, safe environment for Culpeper's homeless."
BEGINS NOVEMBER 26, 2017 - MARCH 24, 2018
The shelter begins on Sunday, November 26 at 5:30 p.m., and runs every night through March 2017. Shelter guests meet by 5:15 p.m. the #1 trolley stop (the trolley stop is called: Commerce Street Shelter), located behind the Culpeper Food Closet, across from the train depot. Either the trolley, or the volunteers, will then take guests to the shelter facility, located at St. Luke's Lutheran church fellowship Hall, 1200 Old Rixeyville Road, Culpeper. If a guest has their own vehicle, they are welcome to drive to the shelter. At the shelter, they will be interviewed and some information will be recorded, such as their name and emergency contacts. They will not need to be interviewed with each visit after that. People who have been drinking or using drugs will not be allowed to stay in the shelter. Admission to the shelter is at the discretion of the intake volunteers. Guests will be provided with a cot, clean bedding and a hot dinner. Breakfast will be served between 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 a.m. Guests will also receive food items to take a bagged lunch. A trolley, or volunteers, will then return all guests to the #1 trolley stop at 7:00 a.m. This routine continues throughout the winter.
